'Beatrix and Her Birds'
After being invited out for a residency in England, Chris Valentine and Stefan Smit set out to collaborate on two murals in one space.
"We loved the idea of paying homage to Beatrix Potter (who used to use Daler-Rowney paints) as both Chris and I grew up having her work read to us and thought it would be fitting to pair her with something natural and went straight to one of my favourite things to paint, birds. We chose the barn swallow for a few reasons. For one, it is a beautiful bird but also has some of the most gorgeous acrobatics and has a particularly dear message being that swallows were often tattooed on sailors as a sign of luck to help them find their way home when out at sea.
